Home Energy Savings can help customers save money on their energy bills
with FREE assessments and energy-saving products.
Types of Assessments
We offer two types of assessments:
- In-home assessment: Income eligible customers can receive a free in-person review of your home’s energy use from one of our specially trained energy advisors. Also receive free energy-saving products and recommendations to help you save even more. Following your assessment, you’ll receive a comprehensive report that recommends additional ways to save both money and energy. Eligible customers who complete an in-home assessment may also qualify to receive free weatherization improvements like air sealing and insulation.
- Self-assessment: Complete a short online survey about your home and its energy use. Receive free and discounted energy-saving products delivered to your home for self-install plus tips to help you save even more. Customers who complete a self-assessment will not be eligible for more extensive services like weatherization improvements.
Eligibility
Assessments are available to customers living in:
- Single-family homes
- Two-flats
- Condos
- Mobile homes
- Manufactured homes
- Townhomes
Homes must be located in an area served by ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas or North Shore Gas. Both homeowners and renters are eligible to participate.
More extensive services are available to customers who meet additional criteria, including but not limited to household income eligibility requirements and complete an in-home assessment. See the FAQ section for more information.
Weatherization
Income eligible customers whose total household income is at or below 80% area median income (AMI) may qualify to receive additional services and improvements. Eligibility for free additional services will be determined after your in-home assessment is complete. Improvements typically include insulating and air sealing your attic and walls, and sealing air leaks in your ducts. You can enhance the comfort of your home while reducing energy!

You may be eligible to receive the following energy-saving products at no-cost.
WaterSense® showerheads and flow optimizers
Experience consistent water temperature and pressure at a reduced flow rate with upgraded energy efficient showerheads.
WaterSense® certified faucet aerators
Use up to 30% less water than standard faucet aerators to save water as well as energy used to heat it.
Pipe insulation
Keeps water in your water pipes warm longer, helping you lower water consumption and energy used by your hot water heater.
Door sweep
Enhance the comfort of your home with adhesive door sweeps. Reduce drafts to keep your home at your desired temperature.
Air filter
Remove harmful particulates, keeping you safe from allergens and bacteria. Enhance the efficiency of your heating & cooling system.
Smart thermostat (including Sensi, Nest E, Nest Learning and more)
Save on heating and cooling costs with smart features that make a difference in home comfort and energy conservation.
Programmable thermostat
Raise and lower temperature, automatically limiting energy used when you are away or asleep.
Smart socket
Plug in appliances and devices to a WI-FI & Bluetooth Low Energy enabled smart socket to control with the ease of a smart device.
Advanced power strips
Advanced power strips save energy by reducing the amount of standby power wasted by your home office and entertainment systems.
LED Bulbs
LEDs use at least 75% less electricity and last about 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs.
